Lufthansa Technik has signed a letter of intent with GMR Aero Technic, an airframe maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), to address the growing demand for engine wash services in India.

Under the strategic partnership, Lufthansa Technik is planning to appoint GAT, the MRO division of GMR Air Cargo and Aerospace Engineering, as service provider for Cyclean Engine Wash in India starting in the first quarter.

GAT will operate the mobile Cyclean system installed on a vehicle, which can be flexibly deployed at any locations. With patented technology, Cyclean Engine Wash services offer efficient and sustainable washes, reducing water consumption by 50%, completing washes in under 45 minutes, and eliminating the need for post-engine-wash run-ups.

The comprehensive services will be available for all engine types, including the latest generation engines CFM LEAP, PW1100, and Trent XWB engines.

The services will be offered at major airports across India, with the first service location in Bengaluru during the first quarter of 2024, and further plans for expansion to additional locations such as Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad.

Dennis Kohr, SVP corporate sales Asia Pacific at Lufthansa Technik, said: “This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in the Indian aviation industry. We are very proud that Lufthansa Technik and GMR are jointly committed to providing unparalleled engine services to the Indian market, focusing on sustainability, operational excellence, and cost efficiency.”

Ashok Gopinath, president and accountable manager, GMR Aero Technic, commented: “The collaboration between GMR and Lufthansa Technik underscores a shared commitment to revolutionise engine maintenance services in India, contributing to the growth and sustainability of the aviation sector in the region.”
