Austrian company FACC has won a €500 million contract with Airbus to develop overhead stowage compartments for its redesigned A320 interior cabin.

At Paris Air Show, Airbus announced that it would extend its Airspace interior concept to the A320. It is already applied to the A330neo and A350.

Airbus said part of the enhanced interior would be the largest overhead storage compartment in its class, allowing for eight, instead of five bags, per four-frame bin. It said the redesign would also accommodate bigger and heavier bags stowed vertically.

FACC will develop these “Airspace XL Bins” and series production will start in 2018.

FACC will also deliver ceiling panels, which it says will provide “uniform illumination” in the cabin.
