Through its companies, Strata and Turbine Services & Solutions, Mubadala Investment Company has signed new contracts for maintenance and manufacturing.

Mubadala’s Turbine Services & Solutions (TS&S) signed its first maintenance agreement with Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) Ltd, to service its engines including the Trent 700, GEnx and the V2500 engine.

TS&S says the agreement represents a “breakthrough”, as it marks the company’s first major deal covering multiple engine types with a market leading leasing company.

Firoz Tarapore, Chief Executive Officer at DAE, said: “DAE is delighted to leverage the huge potential that exists within TS&S and we were extremely satisfied with the services TS&S recently provided to DAE in repairing one of our V2500 engines. We look forward to continuing this successful relationship and to mutually contribute to the ever-expanding synergies that are built between the different aviation related businesses within the UAE.”

Boeing

Meanwhile, Strata Manufacturing, also owned by Mubadala Investment Company, announced a new contract with Boeing to manufacture composite empennage ribs for Boeing’s new 777X airplane.

The agreement is Strata’s first contracted statement of work for the 777X programme, enabling the company to expand its role as a direct composite aerostructures supplier to Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

Bernard Dunn, president Boeing Middle East, North Africa and Turkey, said: “Boeing is proud to advance our mutually beneficial strategic partnership with Mubadala in ways we strongly believe are delivering long-term benefits to the UAE’s economy and Boeing’s business growth.”

He added: “Building on its production for the 777 and 787, Strata will produce composite aerostructures for the 777X, the world’s most efficient twinjet and an airplane selected by UAE customers.”

Pilatus Aircraft

Strata also signed an agreement to manufacture Belly Fairings for the PC-24, a twin-engine business jet produced by Pilatus Aircraft Ltd of Switzerland. It is the first step of a long-term agreement between Pilatus and Strata targeting the production of the complete PC-24 composite shipset requirement in the UAE.

Fredy Glarner, VP Manufacturing at Pilatus Aircraft Ltd., commented: “The partnership with Strata is not only a key element of the Pilatus strategy for the UAE to embed Strata into our global supply chain, but is also envisioned to become a pillar in our portfolio of local manufacturing projects.

“We look forward to growing the relationship with Strata and we are confident that it will be a driving force to further the Abu Dhabi Vision 2030 objectives.”

The announcements were made at the Global Aerospace Summit being held in Abu Dhabi this week.
