New seat will reduce cabin weight and increase fuel efficiency

Recaro Aircraft Seating is helping to reduce carbon footprints with a more sustainably designed economy class seat. The new seat is a result of the company’s investment into innovation and research and significantly lowers the weight of aircraft, save fuel and helps set a new environmental standard for the industry. The seats will also feature longer life cycles.

The SL3710 is 1.5 kilogrammes lighter than its predecessor, so more seats can be fitted into an aircraft, while still offering passengers an ergonomically-optimised seat with ample living space, even in small pitches. The reduction in cabin weight will also save airlines several thousand euros in fuel costs per year.

‘Building a more sustainable future’

Dr Mark Hiller, CEO and Shareholder of Recaro Aircraft Seating said: “Like the rest of society, we at Recaro are committed to protecting the environment. Although our industry is faced with unique challenges when implementing environmentally-friendly practices, it is possible to minimise carbon emissions as long as we are all working towards the same goal. From identifying new ways to improve the efficiency of every flight, to implementing innovative green energy practices at our manufacturing sites, we are constantly looking for ways to build a more sustainable future.”

In addition to the production of efficient seats, Recaro is continuously looking at innovations that support sustainability, including internal programmes that promote recycling and saving energy.
