We talked to Nick Leontidis, Group President, Civil Aviation Training Solutions, CAE, about the impending shortage and what we can do about it.

At Paris Air Show, CAE unveiled its first Pilot Outlook. The research found that 255,000 new airline pilots (70 pilots a day) will be needed over the next 10 years, and 50% of the pilots who will fly the world’s commercial aircraft in 10 years have not yet started to train.

“Planning is going to be important,” Leontidis said. “These pilots don’t exist; they need to be created and that requires lead time.”

In this video, he discusses the scale of the issue and some of the new approaches airlines are taking.
